DMB, the developer, lists DC Ranch at more than 8,000 acres with 3,000 entitled homes, and says it protected 4,600 acres for the neighboring McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Governance is layered. The Ranch Association handles landscape, maintenance and operations, the Covenant Commission sets architectural and landscape design standards, and ten neighborhoods are managed by sub-associations. That means a sub-association or commercial owner here has standards to meet, not just a budget. The good news: when everyone follows the same playbook, the whole place looks intentional instead of patchy.

Desert landscapes look easy and are not. Native plants want a light hand: thinning instead of shearing, no poodle-ball shrubs, and drip set for deep, infrequent soaks. Natural areas next to manicured ones need clean, defensible edges and weed control that doesn't wipe out the wildflowers. We read your community guidelines before we prune, and we ask before we change anything a design review might care about. Slopes and washes get a look after every big storm, since monsoon runoff loves to undercut drip lines and wash granite into the street.

Market Street, at 20551 to 20901 N. Pima Road, mixes restaurants, shops and offices on a casual Main Street layout, so patio and storefront plantings get close looks. It is a real drive from our Mesa yard, so we set fixed route days for north Scottsdale and stick to them.
