ASU Research Park & Discovery Business Campus, Tempe

Campus landscapes built for the long haul

Also known as: ASU Research Park, Discovery Business Campus, Research and Discovery

Lots of research happens here. We already know the answer to dry shrubs.

ASU News reports the research park covers 320 acres, broke ground at the end of 1984 on land the Arizona State College Foundation once farmed, and had more than 4,000 employees at 49 companies at its 30th anniversary. GlobeSt described Discovery Business Campus next door as 136 acres sharing a main entrance with the research park. The city lists Northern Trust, Shutterfly, GoDaddy and the ASU Flexible Display Center in this hub. Sunbelt Holdings has managed the research park since 1992, according to ASU.

Campus parks age in layers. Buildings from the first phase in the mid-1980s sit beside newer ones, and irrigation systems often date from whichever phase came first. We map zones, find the valves that run long or leak, and fix those before anything else. Mature shade trees get structural pruning so they keep shading walkways and parking without dropping limbs on cars. And yes, we are aware the trees are older than some of the tech inside.

Large lawns and street frontage are common here. Tempe offers commercial customers a grass removal rebate of 50 percent of conversion costs, up to $20,000, with pre-approval, plus a Water Efficiency and Education Grant for non-residential efficiency projects that opens each spring. We can help sort out which grass employees actually use and convert the rest. Many campuses here require vendor compliance, and we already work through NetVendor, VendorCafe, RealPage and Coupa. Crews follow your check-in rules and stay out of the way of employees and visitors.
