GlobeSt reported in 2004 that Emerald Center was planned as a 150-acre office and retail community, and the State Press placed the IKEA store, about 342,000 square feet, near I-10 and Warner Road. Bisnow later described Emerald Center as a 2 million square foot mixed-use center. The city now lists it as an innovation hub along I-10 with home goods stores, several new car dealerships and commercial buildings, with land still available to build on.
