Landscape lights glowing among trees at night

Phoenix Landscape & Site Lighting Upgrades

In a Phoenix summer, residents walk dogs, check mail and head to the pool after dark, so path, entry and parking-area lighting gets real use. Pro Turf installs, retrofits and repairs exterior and landscape lighting for Phoenix HOAs, apartment communities and commercial properties, aimed where people walk and not into the neighbors' bedrooms.

Phoenix lighting rules and LED rebates

From June to September, Phoenix does half its living after sunset. The walkway lights should keep up.

Phoenix's outdoor light control code covers fixtures on buildings, parking lots, landscaping and security lighting, with a goal of limiting spillover and sky glow. It requires full shielding for several lamp types, including metal halide, high pressure sodium and incandescent over 150 watts, unless the light has an automatic shutoff and stays off from 11 p.m. to sunrise. The zoning ordinance adds that lighting must not shine or reflect onto adjacent residential property.

That makes older fixtures a good place to start. Mercury vapor fixtures installed after January 1, 1985 aren't allowed, and many older floods and wall packs light the sky more than the sidewalk. Swapping them for shielded LEDs usually cuts power use and glare at once. APS lists per-fixture rebates for outdoor LED fixtures, and SRP has offered an exterior LED rebate that requires approval before you buy, so check your utility's current terms first.

Many Phoenix properties pair this with landscape maintenance in Phoenix and exterior construction & capex in Phoenix, so one team handles the whole property.

FAQ

Exterior Lighting in Phoenix: common questions

Do Phoenix lighting rules apply to landscape lights?

Yes. Phoenix's outdoor light control code covers landscaping, parking lot, building and security fixtures, and the zoning ordinance doesn't allow lighting to shine onto adjacent residential property.

Can we get a rebate for switching to LED in Phoenix?

Often. APS lists per-fixture rebates for outdoor LED fixtures, and SRP has offered exterior LED rebates that need approval before purchase. Check with your utility before ordering fixtures.

Our lights shine into neighboring homes. Can you fix that?

Yes. We re-aim fixtures, add shields or replace them with shielded LEDs so light lands on walks and entries instead of next door.
