How Tempe's commercial grass removal rebate works
The rebate covers 50% of the landscape conversion cost, excluding tax, for converting live turf to desert landscaping, up to $20,000. Commercial, industrial, institutional, HOA and multifamily customers are eligible.
Quick math: a $30,000 conversion could receive $15,000, and any project costing $40,000 or more reaches the $20,000 cap.
Pre-approval is required before the project starts. Don't let a crew start removing grass until the city has approved the project.
Neighborhood Grants: another option for apartments and HOAs
Apartments, HOAs and neighborhood associations can also apply for Tempe's Neighborhood Grants for turf replacement. Ask the city which program fits your project better before you apply.
Add shade with the Commercial TreeBate
A conversion is a good time to add shade. Tempe's Commercial TreeBate pays 50% of the cost of a desert-adapted tree, up to $100 per tree, and city commercial customers can use it for up to five trees per site. New shade keeps a converted area from turning into a hot, empty rock yard.
